5 places to visit in New York State

New York City

If you’re planning a trip to NYC soon and have accidentally forgotten that New York is also a state, we’re going to make you change your plans because there’s so much to see beyond the city. Here are the places to visit in New York State, in no particular order:

1. New York City: The City where dreams are built. This one is obviously your first destination when you’re visiting New York State. The places that you can visit in New York City will form a list of their own if we were to start suggesting, so we won’t get into too much detail. Let’s just say that the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building are some unmissables.

2. Long Island: An island off the northern coast of the United States, Long Island is a tourist destination rich in history, with mansions from the 1700s, museums, and antique shops. It’s also an area known for its upscale neighbourhoods. Also a great many TV shows, movies and books are set in Long Island like The Great Gatsby, Revenge and Annie Hall.

3. Niagara Falls: Did you know that the Niagara is actually made of three waterfalls that straddle the Canada-United States border? This is a must see if you’re in the area, for a breathtaking experience. There are so many ways you can experience the falls too, like going over them in a sky walk, taking a boat to the base and ziplining.

4. Thousand Islands: An archipelago of 1864 islands, this site is a natural wonder that must be experienced if you’re headed to New York State. Most of these islands are tiny, supporting only a couple of trees, which makes them really cute. You’ll feel like a giant around most of them. A cruise around the maze they form is quite recommended.

5. Lake Placid: If you’re heading to New York in the winter, Lake Placid is must see. This village named after the lake nearby, is a world famous winter sport wonderland having hosted the Winter Olympics twice. There’s a lot you can do here which is why a family trip would be perfect. Maybe you can try skiing and experience the thrill of snow and of course the Lake itself.
