Vivo Y55s – Review

In the past year, Chinese Smartphone company, Vivo has put itself on the tech radar by bringing out phones that are smart, beautiful and oh so affordable. With a noteworthy portfolio that boasts of phones like the V5 and the V5s, Vivo is a name to look out for if you want a pretty phone with cool features at a reasonable price. Today we’ll be talking about the Vivo Y55s, released in February this year, which is their most affordable one yet, that offers a pretty sweet range of features.

First up, the design.

While the design of the Y55s is not entirely new and a lot of phones these days have gone the slim, metallic unibody with curved edges way, this phone is still very attractive and is easily one of the prettiest phones in its class. It looks and feels absolutely premium, with its metal finish in two colours, Space Grey and Crown Gold. And it’s really light too, even with its 5.20 inch screen, and is perfect if you wish to have a phone that looks high-end, for a fraction of the price.

And it’s really light too, even with its 5.20 inch screen, and is perfect if you wish to have a phone that looks high-end, for a fraction of the price.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, and a 2730 mAh battery. It also comes with a 3GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 256GB, which is pretty decent. The phone has two SIM slots, with one fitting a micro SIM and the other, a nano, but only SIM 1 supports 3G and 4G/LTE. The Vivo Y55s runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and also carries Vivo’s own  Funtouch OS 3.0 as the skin.

The phone has been marketed as a camera phone with the tagline ‘Capture Clear Shots’, and it comes with a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie camera. While this phone may not be the best selfie phone in the market, it does a good job of capturing clear shots with the 13 MP primary camera, with a lot of shooting modes for extra photographic fun. But the selfie camera also has one good thing going for it, that is the smart screen flash, which allows you to click brighter photos, always.

The Y55s also has some pretty cool high-end phone features, such as the split screen feature, Smart Split 2.0, which allows you to multitask seamlessly. It also has a pre-loaded eye-protection mode, which allows you to enjoy your phone time without harming your eyes or disturbing your sleep cycles.

All in all, the Y55s looks like a solid phone with good features promised. It boasts of good performance, it does have a sleek design and build quality and also comes with a lot of neat features. And all for the price of about RS. 10,000- Rs 11,000, so it’s got an open market ready to give it a shot. The only challenge for this phone now is to live up to its hype and stay efficient in the long run.
