Munnar, Kerala: India’s Most Romantic Destination

Kerala needs no introduction as one of India’s premier tourist destinations. It is God’s Own Country, blessed especially with balmy, tropical air, beautiful coastlines and a culture that makes you never want to leave. One of Kerala’s best features as a travel destination is that it is a place that everyone can love. From honeymoons to family vacations to a trekking trip for the groom-to-be and his best men, the topography of the place allows for all sorts of holiday possibilities. It comes as no surprise, that Munnar, is chosen as ‘India’s Most Romantic Destination’ by Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2017.

Munnar is a beautiful hill-station tucked away in the Western Ghats in Kerala. With its lush green landscapes and clean, mountain air, it is one’s dream escape from the harsh summers in your city. The serenity of this place with its mesmerising tea gardens, cottages and abundant waterfalls offers the perfect atmosphere for romance that makes it one of India’s most popular honeymoon destinations.

Kerala in particular is a romantic hot-spot, and is increasingly becoming a go-to destination for weddings and honeymoons. The charm of its exotic beaches and tranquil backwaters, makes it a current favourite for luxury dream weddings in India.

Kerala Tourism is no stranger to awards either. The award by Lonely Planet is only the latest one that the well managed tourism department of the state gets to boast about. Speaking at the awards ceremony which happened in Mumbai on May 25th 2017, the Director of Kerala Tourism , Mr. P Bala Kiran acknowledged such awards as inspirations and encouragements for people to travel more and explore places they haven’t been to.

Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Award 2017 is currently in its 6th edition and is one of the most prestigious travel awards in the country, that acknowledges both national and international destinations. One of the nicest things about this award is that it is chosen by a reader’s survey, so the winners are always favourites picked by seasoned travellers.

With this little tidbit, we hope to inspire you to book those tickets to Kerala right away! If you’ve been waiting for inspiration for your next travel destination, look no further. Munnar is a delight even if romance is not what you’re travelling for right now.

I have certainly enjoyed a number of visits to Munnar. It’s the rolling landscape, rather than romance, that has attracted me.
