Holi Party Ideas that will make yours extra special

Holi Party

With Holi just this weekend, we know the pressure of throwing the best Holi party of the year is just beginning to get real for those of us who’re hosting this year. In case you’re looking for fresh ideas, here’s a few that could make you do the talk of the locality.

All White

We know Holi is all about getting yourself covered in colour, but imagine the fun if you started out with pure white? This year for your party, make sure you insist that your guests turn up in all white for the fun. You’ll see all the colours better and have so much fun trying to Holi up your loved ones’ clothes.

An Organic Affair

Do you want to throw a cool Holi party but don’t like the idea of potentially-harmful chemical-laced colours? Try something new and make your own colours! You can use flowers for colour. Try soaking them in water to extract the colour and use the water to play. The plus side to this is, of course, the sweet smell of spring in the air.

Pool Fun

This year, how about shifting the party to the pool? Holi and water go really well together and you can enjoy a nice spring day by the poolside while you get doused in colour. You might want to use organic colours to be on the safe side though. And if you don’t have a big pool, get an inflatable one for your backyard (or several), fill them with coloured water and enjoy throwing people into them.

Mud Baths

This will take you back to your childhood when playing with dirt (sneakily) on those trips to your ancestral village would have been a great treat. This year, try incorporating mud in your Holi play. Dig some pits in your yard and wet them with water to create dirt baths that kids and adults could roll in. You’d have to set ground rules for this though. Like no dirt on the eyes and hosing off before entering the house for snacks later.

Throw a Masquerade

If you want to add extra drama to your celebration, add masks to the dress code. Just make sure they are all white.

With everyone in white and wearing white masks, it is going to be fun trying to figure out who it is you’re going to cover in yellow gulal. Kids are definitely going to love this one.
