With day 5 bringing together the best of Indian fashion on the runway, the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 comes to a close. And it was one great day too with so many of our favourite leading ladies slaying on the runway. In case you missed the glamorous closing of the fashion extravaganza, here are the highlights of what happened on day 5:
The most talked about moment of the day of course, was new mom Kareena Kapoor’s return to the ramp after the birth of her son, Taimur. Bebo looked absolutely radiant in a bespoke Anita Dongre white gown and jacket ensemble, which was inspired by the Lakme ‘Liquid Gold’ collection. This was the moment we had been waiting for the entire week and Kareena did not disappoint, nor did Anita Dongre.
The second showstopper to steal our hearts and set the ramp on fire was Malaika Arora who wore a Divya Reddy bralette-lehenga combination that was nothing short of sexy. The collection, ‘Shahibzadi’ was a glam-filled set of regal Indian wear in rich colours, something quite right for a summer wedding. And we can’t wait to see the collection in real life.
Day 5 was a good mix of luxurious ethnic wear and fancy western dressy outfits and we loved the Sashi Vangapalli lavender gown that Sushmita Sen wore. The best Indian ensemble of the day though, has to be Jayanti Reddy’s ink blue lehenga-choli combo, worn by Disha Patani. There was just something about that colour that added a royal touch to the collection.
We talked in an earlier article about how the LFW is a platform for social messages to be sent out through fashion. The AJIO curated NotWhatIWear campaign is an excellent example of that effort. This collection which was presented on Day 5 of the LFW, was a demonstration of how women are shamed and blamed for their own sexual harassment for their choice of clothing. It was a bold move meant to encourage women to not be afraid of their sartorial choices and it went down well with many celebrities endorsing it.
Day 5 was pretty good for menswear too with two very well designed collections for the modern dandy. Raamz Design Studio presented a very summer friendly yet stylish collection called ‘Geometron’ which we loved for the name, the colours, the cuts and of course the jawdropper, Amit Sadh. The other notable menswear collection was Gaurav Khanijo’s international collection, ‘Summer Soujourn’
Those of you who attended the last day of the LFW 2017 would know that it was a day for being star-struck with the presence of so many Indian celebs at the event. But the creative power was also sky-high. We’re inspired and fashion ready for the year with our look-books planned out and our shopping lists are definitely lengthened, now to test these looks out.
