While Day 1 and Day 2 were more earthy and dedicated to strong causes, rising stars and Indian heritage, Day 3 of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 was all about the glamour, with the big names making their appearance. Here are the highlights:
The most talked about collection was Falguni and Shane Peacock’s LFW comeback. Titled ‘The Rebel’, the internationally recognized red-carpet specialist’s collection was all about the bling with crystals, organza, sequins and feathers. We absolutely loved their color palette too, which featured shades like plum, black, wine and ash grey, for the bold diva. Let’s not forget to mention their choice of showstopper – Bollywood’s own glam queen, Bipasha Basu.
Inspiration was everywhere on the runway on Day 3, and the designers made art out of what moves them. Payal Singhal’s collection ‘Lady M’ based on the darkly romantic age of Agatha Christie’s novels was an example of how literature could move fashion.
Frida Kahlo’s surreal art was also represented along with pichwai paintings in Divya Sheth’s collection ‘RaDa’. Royalty was another theme, taken into funky town with military accents by Label Ritu Kumar in her collection ‘Maharaja Pop’.
An interesting show from Day 3 was the much talked about #TagFree show, curated by Kshitij Kankaria, which was a collection put together by 7 of India’s top labels like Dhruv Kapoor, Miuniku, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Raw Mango, Sanchita and Suket Dhir who came together to work on inclusivity and diversity in fashion, particularly about dispelling the myth of the ideal woman’ body and making every type of woman feel fashionable, minus the confining tags. The project included all sorts of clothing for all sorts of women represented well by different celebrities and models, including Nepal’s Anjali Lama, a transgender model and celebrity hairstylist and gangrape survivor Sapna Bhavnani.
Other noteworthy appearance was Swara Bhaskar, who ended Monica Shah and Karishma Swali’s collection for the millennial woman, ‘Amoh by Jade’ in a sculpted midi dress we can’t wait to see off the ramp.
And we had our mancrush moment when an ageless Rahul Khanna stole the spotlight for Narendra Kumar’s men’s wear collection also aimed at millenials. We somehow can’t stop gushing at how apt he was for the collection, even at 44, and he wore his flower printed jacket and fitted pants with the confidence of a fashion blogger.
Day 3 could have easily been the best day at the LFW this season but we can’t say for sure until we know what the next two days will bring. Keep your eyes out for our updates!
