Smoke on Water – Review

If you’re a beer lover and you’re looking for the next cool place in Delhi to chill with your mug, you need to be hopping down to Connaught Place, to this new gastro-pub called Smoke on Water, where your beer drinking experience is guaranteed to be as cool as the beer they serve. The coolness factor? This pub is Delhi’s first to have the ‘Tap your Beer’ experience, where the beer drinkers can get their own beer from a tap that’s right at their table. No waiting, no clumsy bottles and no flat beer. And you only need to buy a card for a certain amount and tap it on the card reader at your table get access to as much (or as little) beer as you want.

But if you’re not much of a beer fan, this pub is still really great because they serve really good food. They do a great job of American cuisine with burgers and pizzas and other small bites that are nothing short of mouthwatering. The one thing which we especially loved was the face that they had 16 varieties of chicken wings to choose from, to munch on while we sip our beer. Yes, you read that right.

Choice becomes something difficult here because their menu just has quite a few items. We were quite happy to see that they have quite a few options for vegetarians and people who don’t drink alcohol. Their mocktails are as exciting as their beer and they also have cocktails if you are feeling like having something fancier with your wings (they have this drink called the Paan Pasand, which is as desi as it could get and just sounds really interesting).

We like that the place looked right for chilling also for a family as well as for a casual date, complete with the quintessential rustic pub walls, with bricks and ducts on them. Their décor and furniture also add a very comfortable feeling to their ambience, and we felt quite at home within the place. It’s also quite a large place that seats about 88 people. Another feature that the pub offers is hookah, which also makes it a good place to bring your gang to for a Friday evening smoking session followed by beers. It’s also not that much of a strain on your pocket, at the rate of Rs. 1000 for two plus alcohol.

Our overall verdict is that we love Smoke on Water quite a bit and we will definitely be going back for more, if only to get another shot at that beer dispenser! You should check out the place too, if you’re in Connaught and are dying for a mug to beat the heat.
