Barcelos Celebrates Kebab Festival at HKV Outlet
If you’ve been in Delhi for a while, you will be familiar with Barcelos, the restaurant with the most colourful burgers in the city. Well, Hauz Khas Village recently got its own branch of the amazing Portuguese restaurant and we can’t be happier with Delhi’s second edition of the international franchise, location and all.
The Food festivals in Barcelos seem to be about innovative concepts and new dishes and this time it’s hot and grilling Kebabs. With the launch of Portuguese and Mediterranean kebab menu, Barcelos is celebrating one month long Kebab festival at Hauz Khas Village outlet.

The menu offers an assortment of succulent vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs. To name few, the menu includes Stuffed Chicken Kebab, Cheesy Chicken Esptada and Chicken Shish Kebab etc in non – vegetarian priced between Rs 225 – Rs 645. On the other hand, Vegetarian menu includes Peri Peri Paneer Kebab, Beetroot Almond Kebab, Lotus Stem & Semolina Kebab etc priced between Rs 175 – Rs 495. Made with well-balanced spice notes and freshest ingredients, these kebabs are flavourful and done to perfection and each of these has a well-defined flavour, quite different from the other which delights the taste buds.
The HKV Barcelos is larger than the one in Khan Market and walking into the 3000 plus square feet restaurant is almost like glimpsing into Portugal and old-time, small town Barcelos (the town which gave the restaurant its name). Here, the walls all tell stories and they well adorned with photographs, murals, antique hangings and framed newspaper clippings from 1947. The seating is cozy and intimate and the lighting gives the place a very chilled out, evening-hangout-joint look. I loved how the colours of the interiors just invite you to pull up a chair and give yourself over to the good food and drinks, which are simply scrumptious.
Like all its Barcelos brothers (or sisters) this restaurant offers a multinational dining experience even though it is primarily a Portuguese restaurant. One look at its bar menu and you would know. It boasts of sangria recipes from New-Zealand, Spain and Portugal, while also serving Indian specialty cocktails like Kala Khatta and other creatively named drinks you will love. Its menu is also pretty expansive, and it includes some of the best platters and kebabs that I’ve never even heard of. Barcelos also serves a little bit of Lebanese and African inspired dishes so the variety of platters will leave you a little bit confused, but most of the stuff tastes really good.
This means that you can experiment away, and not just stick to their star attraction, the colourful burgers and wraps, which are also pretty good. You should especially try their peri-peri dishes, which are simply to die for (the tagline of the place is ‘Home of the Peri-Peri’). The Mediterranean style chicken kebabs and platters are a house specialty and the juiciness of the meat is incomparable. We also love the sauces that came with the platters, because they really added so much zing to the food.
At Rs. 1200 for two, with alcohol, I think that Barcelos is the ultimate addition to Hauz Khas’s collection of casual dining places, making it Delhi’s number one cool place to be seen at. I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next, but for now, I’m already thinking of what my next order at Barcelos is going to be!
