15 April 2016: The fashion extravaganza at the India Runway Week 2016 launched Season 6 Summer Edition at the Thyagraj Stadium in association with Big Boy Toyz. India Runway Week is Asia’s youngest fashion trade event. IRW introduces new talent and launches young Indian designers on to the global fashion arena. India Runway Week 2016 not only provides a platform for both established and upcoming talented designers but it also introduces fresh designers to showcase their collections. This literally is an opportunity of a lifetime for a fresh designer.

“Fashion Startups of India” was the first show of the extravaganza and something of this sort happened for the first time when a fashion trade event of this level had eight young designer kicking off the ready-to-wear collections for Summer’16 season. The Opening show entirely financed by IFFD (Indian Federation for Fashion Development). IFFD provides a solid platform for both new and old fashion industry members. They also provide a marketing platform for all players within the industry. IFFD presented the collection of eight designers out of the thirty young designers from the previous seasons of India Runway Week who participated under “Newgen” category. The young designers were Megha & Jigar, Vishala Shree, Ankita & Akshita, Vanica Chhabra, Rahul Kapoor, Bani Pasricha, Fahd Khatri and Sanya Garg.

The Opening show  was followed by Snishh by Snidhi and Ishna, Puneet Gupta, Yosshita & Neha, Gauri Couture, Hannah Khianghte, Bani Khurana, Sailesh Singhania, Prachi and Saloni, Sudhanshi Garg, Rohini Gugnani, Pratibha Lalwani last but not least Varija Bajaj. Sisters Snidhi & Ishana showcased their label SNISHH which was about dynamic cuts and geometric prints. Puneet Gupta presented a very mesmerizing array of classic Indian designs and patterns for brides and grooms. Designer Hannah Khianghte presented silhouettes and traditional formal wear that women in Mizoram wear with their Puan (traditional skirt of the Mizos).

Natasa Stankovic the super hot serbian model from the “DJ Waale Babu” song scorched the ramp as a showstopper for Gauri Couture by Nikheil & Rivendra at India Runway week spring/summer 2016. She looked absolutely stunning and gorgeous in the collection named “ITRR” which was inspired from vintage garden.

The highlight of the day was Chesi Anne Basil, a 16 year old cancer patient whose only wish was to be a model and walk the ramp. Her motto in life is to celebrate life and be a role model for the millions of other people who are fighting this deadly disease. VARIJA DESIGN STUDIO was more than happy to make her wish come to life, with the help of India Runway Week and Make-A-Wish-Foundation. PAGDI is an ode to women like Chesi who are bold and strong and have the courage to take a huge responsibility to make this world a better place. PAGDI at India Runway Week by designer Varija Bajaj however was an ode to womanhood.

The second day of the India Runway week 2016 Season 6 was a feast for the eyes and soul. The second day marked a celebration of the beauty of different styles women tend to explore sartorially. The day started with fresh college students walking the ramp. “Think Design” which is a part of the India Runway Week by IFFD celebrated the summer collection 2016.

One had to really soak in the beauty of this diverse extravaganza and celebration the ultimate style. Each INSDIAAN has relentlessly worked on each and every individual collection and extracted the very best of “Bohurupi” label. Designer Abhishek Roy doesn’t just cater to a niche market but rather to a wide range of people and absolutely loves to personalize the clothes to the preferences of every individual customer to match their style and personality.His style is free flowing and earthly. The choice of color palette is filled with rich and bright colors like yellow, red, blue, green, etc. This choice is most definitely inspired by mother nature & her beauty like trees flowing in the mild breeze, changing seasons, flowers and so on. In a world like ours where things are repetitive and monotonous, his designs try to break away from the banal and adds a dash of color in our daily life.

Label by designer Dheeru Sagar and Nitika Kanodia made silhouettes as a base of their inspiration and created a fabulous new range of collection keeping in mind the picture of a quintessential modern Indian woman. The collection is simply beautiful and is bound to blow you away it is an amalgamation of Indian heritage embroidery creatively infused with Parisian silhouettes.

“First Edit” which was by Sonya Shukla, was all about garments that help you to make a sweeping social entrance. The signature aesthetic of the brand is a triumphant fusion of western silhouettes replete with traditional workmanship and modern motifs splayed across conventional Indian garments. The collection primarily comprised of beautiful contemporary ethnic as well as fusion ensembles.

The label Yashika Tejwani is for the woman who is modern, independent and yet is someone who is deeply rooted in tradition. The label believes in timeless elegance that is craft based. The label is an ode to adorning the rich cultural heritage of different regions which do not follow a fashion trend in particular. Though the foundation of the label lies in intricate Banka Silk by designers Rashmi Shrivastav and Devleena Mazumdar, their collections was inspired and focused into taking the authentic essence of India.

Actress Mandira Bedi and Transgender Activist Laxmi Naryan Tripathi walked the ramp for the Delhi-based Jewellery designer Akassh K Aggarwal. Actress Mandira Bedi looked stunning and was definitely the show stopper the already splendid evening. At the show Akassh Aggarwal launched the new Spring/Summer Collection “The Coeur Collectives”. Coeur is a recreation of French Word for core/heart. With his Coeur Collection, Akassh Aggarwal showcased assortment of Indian era of grandeur, splendour and preciousness of jewellery vanity. The collection seemed not only splendid it also showed the versatility that it can be worn on ethnic as well with Indo-western. The collection deeply resonates with symbolism by using some of finest techniques in filigree motif, stamped light weight metal sheet work, embossed 3D and vibrant metallic

Akassh K Aggarwal said “The collections comes with a social message of Gender Equality & Sensitization refers to the modification of behaviour by raising awareness of gender equality concerns , In a male dominating society such as India, the other two kinds Female & LGBT gender are facing their own SOCIAL & PERSONAL issue. I want to bring the Gender Equality message through my collection.”

Suman Kundu (Wrestler), Sandeep Narwal (Kabaddi Player), Sunil Dabas (National Female Kabaddi Coach ) walked the ramp for ‘DAKSH’ an Indian fashion label based at Rohtak- Haryana. Shriya Saran Walked the ramp for designer Architha Narayanam’s brand Archi, she looked absolutely stunning in her beautifully designed outfit.

Day 3 of the Fashion week was much more than what was expected. On Day 3 the highlight of the India Runway fashion Week was 5 major designers  – Anjana Singh, Priyanka Munot, Shafali Grover, Yugansatya and Shruti Jamaal. The show was as thrilling as the first two days and even better. From the “The Sport of Royalty” to ‘Kaanjari’  to  “India through a Kaleidoscope”, the Day 3 of the Fashion week covered all the shades of Indian and modern culture
The show was started with Anjana Singh’s collection. Embroideries of chamba rumal stole our hearts. The collection was crafted out of organza, georgette, habutai along with hand-loom silk. The color ranged from pastel mist with mini crystals. The ophisticated Indo-western silhouettes were very beautiful.
Priyanak Munot’s collection is inspired from “India through a Kaleidoscope.” It is fairly called – Kaleido’s Spring/Summer The focus of the designer was a mix of couture and ethnic traditional blend with modernity. The collection was quite colourful. It included ghagra choli, kediyu dhoti, sharara crop top, and gowns. Different fabrics like organza, silk chiffon, georgette and Gazi silk made the collection very impressive..
 As the name suggests Yugansatya collection “The Sport of Royalty” was subtle, classy and royal game. Pralii Design House by Rupali, Niharika Kamani, Megha Jain Madaan, Mugdha Art Studio, Seema Mehta, Rajdeep Ranawat, Agnimitra Paul delivered a stunning show at the Fashion Week.
Designer Rajdeep Ranawat collection ‘Kaanjari’ is inspired by Rann of Kutch capturing the essence of Gujarat’s heritage in his Spring-Summer collection titled . The embroideries and techniques reflects the culture of beauty of the culture of Kutch with a tinge of the global nomad culture.   With sustainable organic fabrics and  Swarovski elements the collection was a beauty in itself.
Actress & Model Rushali Rai walked the ramp for Designer Rupali Lakra. Wearing a stunning gown from the BOHO-ANTI-BOHO collection the model looked just fabulous. Actress Aditi Gowitrikar walked the ramp for Designer Megha Jain. In the orange tulle dress the actress looked nothing less than perfect. Neha Dhupia walked the ramp for Sashi Vangapalli labelled Mughdha Art Studio. She wore a white Lehenga which enhanced her dazzling looks. Sashi’s collection did justice to her brand’s belief “We are about you”. The collection isn’t about what women wear but how clothes enhance the beauty of women. Babul Supriyo, Union minister & BJP MP from West Bengal’s Asansol walked the ramp for designer Agni Mitra Paul. She showcased- Ikat and Madhubani, the wearable and comfort wear line with bright colors.
It was a startling show with all beautiful colours and impressive designers. Of all the things the hand painted pieces were simply regal and were surely bound to make you feel like royalty, knowing that each piece is unique and hours of concrete efforts for expert craftsmen has gone into every single piece of garment and it merges past into present.
