Simple ways to keep your skin and hair protected this Holi
Looking forward to playing your heart out at the beautiful festival of colours? But, are the harmful chemicals in Holi colours stressing you out? Gone are the days when Holi colours were made of natural ingredients. so, here are some ways to keep your skin and hair protected this Holi from harmful colours.
1) The first tip is from granny’s books – apply oil or waterproof moisturiser all over your body 20-25 minutes before you start. Using a moisturiser with sunscreen would be the best choice. Dab more oil in areas where colour can settle down easily like behind the ears, in ear lobes, in between fingers and near the finger nails etc.
2) Dry skin allows the chemicals to penetrate the skin easily. Hence, keep yourself well hydrated; drink lots of liquids before and while playing with colours.
3) Wear clothes that cover your whole body, preferably cotton clothes. The more parts of your body are covered, the better it is for obvious reasons.
4) Avoid sitting in sun for very long, as sitting in sun for too long causes the colours to dry and it becomes very difficult to remove dried colours.
5) Don’t play with wet colours for more than 2 hours. Restrict to dry colours as much as possible.
6) After Holi, wash your hair thoroughly and condition it. After a couple of days apply hair mask to nourish your hair.
7) Apply scrub on your skin to get rid of the colour. But this isn’t advisable for people who have acne. Using harsh soaps to get rid of the colour is a strict no. A mild cleanser could be used.
8) In the following week avoid bleach, clean ups, shave or wax for getting rid of the colour, or in general.
9) If your skin is getting itchy after playing Holi, use aloevera gel, cucumber juice or rose water for soothing the skin.
10) For tough colours you may also use home remedies like lemon, curd-sandalwood paste or milk-gram flour paste etc. You may consult your mom for more homemade paste options 😉
Last but not the least, be sure to cover your lips with a lip balm and your nails with some nail paint. These tips will definitely save you the sadness of troublesome skin.
Have a happy and colourful Holi!
