One of the quirkiest restaurant I’ve been to recently is the newly opened The Jugaad Café & Bar in Defence Colony Market. As the name suggest the place is full of jugaad’s, whether you talk about the ambience or food. The menu has a special section dedicated to the food prepared by different jugaad’s.
The place is beautifully designed with a takda of Jugaad in everything that is placed there, it has been designed with the help of everyday waste, be it truck head lights to light up the space or the chandeliers made out of cycle tyres The best part of the place is that it’s just not a café or a bar, it’s also a co – working space in the morning and afternoon and serves tea/coffee with their special Jugaad menu and also charging points on each table in the coming days. While talking to the owners Aryan Singh and Vani Vats, they told us about the whole concept and how they wanted their joint to be different from the others as they want to attract the younger lot and the one’s working from home to make the Jugaad Café their office during the day time. As soon as the evening approaches the place transforms itself into a restro-bar, with some foot tapping chart busters over exotic world dishes.
It’s spread on 3 different floors, with the bar on the ground floor the seating is less as compared to the other 2 floors, the first floor has the maximum seating and the top floor is basically for events and the working people. As mentioned earlier the menu has world food, it also offers great fusion food with a hint of Indian Street Food flavour to it.
Their Head food consultant K.P Singh curated few signature dishes which we tasted and relished.
First on the table was The Basa Ball Shots with Kacha Aam, it’s the Vietnamese Basa Fish stuffed with dried mango.
My favourite was the Crispy Chilly Chana it’s basically crispy fried chickpea tossed in sweet chilli sauce.
Along with this we had our amazing jugaadu drink Imli Flame it was tangy tamarind paste with a dash of red chilli on the rim of the glass. As you sip the drink, the tanginess of the tamarind and the red chilli powder gives you a kick even if there’s no alcohol in the drink.
One unique dish that I saw and tasted was the Kurkura Butta, the corn was served with kurkure crumble spicy tangy spread.
Next on the table from Jugaad menu was the Todu Macroni Cheese Burger, the buns of the burger were made of Macroni and Cheese, with a chicken tikki inside. This was one dish that I didn’t like much as it was too messy for me to eat.
In the main course we ordered Spaghetti Bolognese, it is prepared in a meat based sauce and was originated in Bologna, Italy.
We concluded it with a Fruit Cocktail.
